One year ago today... GSW CLOSED

In August 2005, myself and three associates legally incorporated GULF SOUTH WRESTLING. We had our first series of events at Mobile's GREATER GULF STATE FAIR in October 2005. Immediately beginning a solid year running events in the Grand Bay Community Center in west Mobile County, only to leave that fine venue (seen below) because we outgrew it and needed a larger building.
We decided to join with Alabama's Largest Entertainment Complex THE WHISKEY in Mobile, running very successful late Sunday afternoon events, catered to familes with no alcohol being sold. We only left THE WHISKEY after almost a year of outstanding productions because the venue wanted to start selling alcohol, and that did not meet our business plan. In May of 2006, we were invited to become members of The NATIONAL WRETSLING ALLIANCE - NWA.
We had the top pro wrestling training center in the southeast (photos above and below), second only at the time to WWE's Deep South Wrestling's developmental center outside of Atlanta. Our graduates are main eventers in most Gulf Coast independent promotions this very day. We are proud of each and every one of them!

Our first of two mega-events in Citronelle, Alabama we packed the High School Gym to the brim with 700 screaming fans who lined up hours before the doors officially opened (photos above and below).
The photo above was 30-minutes after the doors opened, and below was our setup prior to the event.
I said from the beginning that as far as my career in pro wrestling is concerned post-WWE, if it is not fun and if I can't do it right, I won't do it. I went back into funeral service full time and my days dedicated to GSW became very limited. It slowly became not fun for me, and I was unable to continue to do it right anymore.

One year ago today, on May 16, 2007, GULF SOUTH WRESTLING INC. was dissolved. The question always pops up, will I ever do it again? NEVER say NEVER.

Be Blessed.

One of the sweetest ladies I have had the pleasure of knowing, and a true Legend Of The Ring, Penny Banner passed away last night after a long valiant battle with cancer.
Here's Miss Penny at the Cauliflower Alley Banquet in 2005 with former wrester Peggy Patterson.
Miss Penny sits on my lap at The CAC in 2003. She will be missed!

Imitation the sincerest form of flattery... Funny Stuff!

I was playing around on YouTube last night and found this. I hope you find it as entertaining as I did. To imitate someone is to pay the person a genuine compliment—often an unintended compliment.

Be Blessed.

More Florida Memories...

CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
FROM FLORIDA
1985
A young Barry Horowitz, who in 1985 was working as "Jack Hart." Barry joined The Pringle Dynasty, and was involved in a major angle where he lost in the neighborhood of 150 matches before he won his first one, which happened to be in a Battle Royal for the Florida Heavyweight Title. He pinned Mike Graham for his first win and the championship. Great stuff.
Barry as "Jack Hart" squares off against Hector Guerrero. Hector is Eddie's older brother, and was a top name in Florida for many years. Hector has recently been involved in some TNA programs.
Barry lifts Hector into the air for a big drop to the canvas.
Hector dives off the top giving Barry another record loss.
The fans were really into Barry's win/loss record. This capture shows a fan hold up a scorecard after Barry's loss to Hector.
Pringle Dynasty member's The Missing Link and The Assassin in tag action against Dale Veasey. Yes indeed, the referee is Bill "Fonzie" Alphonso of ECW fame.
Yours truly introducing the original Assassin (Jody Hamilton) to Gordon Solie as the newest member of the Pringle Dynasty.
Jody was the owner of Deep South Wrestling, a recent WWE developmental territory for a number of years.
It was a true pleasure to manage The Assassin, one of the legendary masked men in our industry.
During the same time my brothers, The Fabulous Freebirds were in the Florida territory.
Here's the "Birds" in a verbal confrontation with Mike Graham. From right to left, Buddy Roberts, the late Terry Gordy, Michael "P.S." Hayes, Gordon Solie, and Mike Graham. This shot was from the beginning of a very controversial angle with the Freebirds and Mike Graham that is still talked about today. It was shortly after Mike's father Eddie passed away, and the Freebirds took advantage of Eddie's untimely demise in the interview, saying that Mike was a loser just like his Dad. A bloody beatdown of Mike followed.

Have a great week!
Be Blessed.
