A good Saturday morning to you my friends. I would be stupid to say that a rub from The WWE doesn't do anything for me anymore. To prove that fact, in the past three days since I was featured on
www.wwe.com WHERE ARE THEY NOW, my website has had 345,117 visitors. Nothwithtanding the hundreds of emails, which I have read and answered personally. My responses may be short sometimes, but I am proud that I am able to give the fans what they have given me through the years, and that is attention and respect.
I wish I could share so many of the messages with you, but that would be an impossibility. However, I would like to share just one, it is lengthy but represents the kindness I have been receiving electronically from you good folks out there. I informed the writer that I was going to print his email here and that I would not mention his/her name. So here it goes...
First, I would like to say Happy Belated Birthday! Second off, congrats on being honored on WWE.com's 'Where are They Now' page. I read each and everyone that's there as I find it really interesting and cool to see where many of my favorite wrestlers I grew with have moved on to. I also find it as great timing that you ended up on there around your birthday.
When I visit your site or even visited your 'Where are They Now' profile on WWE.com, one thing I have noticed very prominently is your love of family. In today's world that's a great thing to see. In fact, I have noticed that on pretty much all of the 'Where are They Now' profiles is that family is an incredible part of their life and that they didn't get over consumed by wrestling. While that can't always be said, its great to see that overall family is 1st.
What's even nicer to see is how proud you and everyone else is about their families and that even on wrestling websites they get talked about often. There are a lot of great wrestling personalities out there. What means the most to fans is that little bit of a response and acknowledgement they get from their favorite wrestling personality(s) or star.
There was a quote in the Spiderman 2 movie that I think says it best: Aunt May: "He knows a hero when he sees one. Too few characters out there, flying around like that, saving old girls like me. And Lord knows, kids like Henry need a hero. Courageous, self-sacrificing people. Setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And years later, they'll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams."
Many people not only look at wrestlers much the same way, but also managers. They live their lives vicariously through them. Imagining they are the next 'Rock' or 'Ric Flair' or 'Bobby Heenan' or yes, 'Paul Bearer'. Many people love to see the good guys win in wrestling and watch the bad guys lose. And when the bad guys have the upper hand, they root for the good guys to save the day. Long story short, in my opinion, it doesn't matter if you are a good guy or a bad guy in wrestling. It's what you have done outside of it that matters the most.
How you presented yourself to the fans even if you were the bad guy character. Even a quick 'Hi' or autograph for many is enough to make them happy for days or even years and also usually will give you a lifelong fan and may have impacted them in positive ways you would never have imagined. I've met Chris Jericho, Curt Hennig and Larry the Ax and Brock Lesnar. And in all cases they were very respectable and friendly and had lasting impressions on me. You are one of the ones I also hold in that high regard.
Its amazing to see someone go through as much as you have, and not only keep your head high, but also to stay grounded and family oriented. Where many others would have fallen. In my opinion you rightfully should be proud. For many you are a role model, and by no means is that an easy task. Or in some cases even a wanted one. But you do a very good job of staying grounded, family oriented, and fan friendly.
I want to say Thank you. Your sharing of stories, knowledge of wrestling, pictures, blogs, etc. are a great tool for fans and others in the industry. Its great to see someone still hold true to the old 'Kayfabe' style of wrestling, but also to still acknowledge their fans and care for their family. You truly are a class act and deserve all of the good things that have come your way. Thank you for everything you have given your family AND your fans! I wish you all the best.
Now... to me that is what it is all about. To have spent over 30 years living my childhood dreams and be recognized by those who have enjoyed the fruits of my labor. I will never forget those of you that support me, especially your emails, thoughts and prayers.
As I wrote in my last BLOG, at this very moment all of my family are gathered in a Cathedral in St. Augustine, Florida as my niece Donna weds the love of her life Chris. Although I am at home unable to attend becaue of my choice to dedicate my life at this particular time to funeral service, I am there with my love and spirit; and Donna and Chris know that.
Well lastly, some say that the children suffer for the sins of the parents. What did I do to deserve this? The photo below is my youngest son Daniel, who is 20 years old and has trained for the past year; he now has a handful of professional matches under his belt. He has accomplished what he has done without too much assistance from me, as I have worked for wrestling families before and learned some valuable lessons from their mistakes. That is not saying that I am not here for him, nor will I not open the door for him when I think the time is right.
Daniel is using the the ring name "WCT D.J. Pringle." The WCT = World Class Texan, keeping in mind that he was born in 1987 when I was working for World Class in Dallas. D.J. = Daniel Joseph, his given name; and PRINGLE = well... well... well... no explanation necessary. Now to the photo below.... no words necessary here either. Lord... Lord... Lord... what have I done?
Have a great weekend.
Be Blessed.
